The race to reach the top of the ISL 2016 table has received a huge momentum now. Every single match has the power to catapult a team atop the Indian Super League standings for the season. On Friday, Delhi Dynamos and Kerala Blasters clash swords at the national capital to try and get an upper hand in that race.
A win for Delhi will guarantee them a place at the top at least until the next ISL 2016 game, while a win for Kerala Blasters with a major goal difference could see them climb from the sixth place to the top.
Going by their recent record, Sachin Tendulkar's Kerala Blasters have the edge as they are undefeated in their previous five league games of the season. The Gianluca Zambrotta-coached Delhi Dynamos, meanwhile, have one defeat from their last three games. A neck-to-neck battle can thus be expected on Friday.
The onus is on the away side to make an impact in the game if they are to reach the top. One major concern needs to be addressed and that is the goalscoring front. "Well I think any football team works on creating more and more goal scoring opportunities and I hate to say it but sometimes you get a spell when you don't get the goals or the returns," said Kerala Blasters coach Steve Coppell.
"Yes we need to be more progressive in front of goal and we absolutely need to be more prolific in front of goal to be a factor in this league and we are working hard to prove it."
It is a battle of contrasts really as Delhi have popped in ten goals from their seven games so far, the highest among the teams this season, while Kerala have popped in only four goals, the lowest among the teams this season.
The first leg fixture between the teams turned out to be a goalless draw. "Kerala is a different team and they are a very good team because they run, they fight all together, they're strong, they're confident so it will be very difficult for us," Zambrotta sounded a word of caution. "But of course we are prepared to play this match in the best way."
Schedule
Delhi Dynamos vs Kerala Blasters is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm IST (2.30 pm BST) on November 4.
