Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda scored a brace for Delhi Dynamos on Wednesday to thrash defending Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC 4-1 at the national capital in their return leg ISL 2016 game. Gianluca Zambrotta's side, in the process, got the double over Marco Materazzi's side this season.
Delhi Dynamos moved atop the ISL 2016 points yet again with the three points. They currently have 16 points from nine games and have a bright hope on making it to the knockouts this season.
It all started with Richard Gadze opening the proceedings in the 15th minute of the match, following an assist from the Frenchman Malouda. The 36-year-old took a shot on goal but Chennaiyin FC goalkeeper Karanjit Singh just got a touch on the ball to prevent it out. The ball fell on rebound in the path of Gadze, who slotted it in for the first goal of the match.
Malouda then got on the scoresheet ten minutes later, with this time Gadze playing the assist's role. It was all Delhi thereon but somehow, the away side found a breakthrough with Bernard Mendy pulling one back for Chennaiyin FC with an impressive individual goal just before half time to make the score 2-1.
Nothing changed at the start of the second half as Malouda already found his flow and everyone who has followed the Frenchman's career at Chelsea closely, will know that the winger is unstoppable on his day. Delhi Dynamos got the two-goal lead once again in the 54th minute as he played the assist for Kean Lewis this time around.
The icing on the cake was decorated by the man of the moment, Malouda, yet again, with five minutes left on the clock, as he rose high to head in the fourth goal of the match for the home side. Two goals and two assists -- Malouda played his best ever Indian Super League game so far over two seasons.
Chennaiyin FC, who could have at least, doubled their scoreline, had Jeje Lalpekhlua not missed a sitter in the 70th minute, lost their first game in six matches now. They are now down to the sixth position with five league games remaining this season.
