Delhi Dynamos checked off the expectation of making it to the Indian Super League from their bucket list this season, successfully. Alessandro del Piero came and couldn't help the ISL side get the job done in the first season, Roberto Carlos tried his best but even that didn't help in the 2015 edition of the ISL. Gianluca Zambrotta, however, got the job done this season.
Something about Italian coaches and good luck charms in the ISL? Marco Materazzi may not have done his job of inspiring Chennaiyin FC to the last four of the ISL 2016, but he did that successfully in the first two years of the Indian football competition. Can Zambrotta do something similar with Delhi Dynamos too? That remains to be seen but first, focusing one season at a time remains the key.
Apart from Zambrotta, it was the team composition of Delhi that did the trick this time, along with their impressive chemistry. The likes of Kean Lewis, Richard Gadze and the hotshot Marcelinho, remained the three lethal weapons of Delhi Dynamos this season. And there is always the experience of Florent Malouda.
Brazilian striker Marcelinho (Marcelo Pereira), relatively unknown until now, has almost single-handedly turned out as the superstar of the season for Delhi Dynamos. Nine goals and five assists from 13 games so far in ISL 2016, he is almost close enough to finishing as the top scorer of this season. "Marcelinho is very important for us and he has played very well so far," Zambrotta has time and again mentioned.
Dynamos have scored a total of 27 goals from 14 games, the highest among all teams this year.
