A man was injured when a security guard accidentally fired inside a branch of Vijaya Bank in Delhi on Tuesday.
Delhi Police have arrested the guard and recovered the weapon used. The injured man, identified as Rajender Singh, has been admitted to nearby Moolchand Hospital.
The security guard, Rudra Pal Singh, is a resident of Delhi and had retired from the Indian Army.
Police investigation
According to the police, the bank authorities called the Defence Colony police station to inform about the incident at 1:30 pm.
"The weapon used by the guard has been recovered from the spot along with an empty and five live cartridges," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya told NDTV.
According to the initial investigation, Rudra Pal Singh's gun slipped from his hand causing an accidental firing, however, eyewitnesses were of a different view from the police's version.
Customers inside the bank stated that Rudra Pal Singh was involved in an argument with some of the bank employees and took his gun to fire during the fight.
A case under Arms Acts and Indian Penal Code has been filed with Defence Colony police station.
