An 18-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by different men at least 10 times a day for the last six months was admitted to hospital in Delhi in critical condition.
The girl has been admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital with severe injuries all over her body, as well as infections. She has suffered "lacerations in and around her mouth" and has infected wounds on her legs.
A Hindustan Times report quoted a doctor at the hospital as saying: "The likely cause of infection is repeated sexual assault."
"The girl has been diagnosed with Septic Arthritis, and displayed visible lacerations in and around her mouth consistent with gag wounds. She lies in a critical state, unable to make use of her lower limbs," said president of NGO Shakti Vahini Ravi Kant.
The girl was allegedly trafficked from West Bengal last year and taken to various places, including Rishikesh, Haridwar, Manali and Mangaluru, before she was brought to Delhi. The NGO was looking for the girl since April after receiving information that she was trafficked.
"I have been taken to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Manali, Mangaluru and many other locations and kept at someone's place where people used to come and rape me. This happened for over six months and traffickers used to beat me up on refusal," the girl told Hindustan Times.
"The victim has reported sexual abuse and multiple sexual assaults over the last six months. She has also reported her being used in prostitution rackets," said Kant.
The person who admitted her to the hospital has reportedly disappeared, and the relatives of other patients are looking after the girl.
"She was brought here by a man who claimed to be her relative. But after her condition deteriorated, the person disappeared," said a doctor at the hospital.
Kant has asked the Delhi Commission for Women to provide assistance to the girl at the hospital and start an investigation to find the person who admitted her to the hospital.
