Wage discrimination is rampant in the Hindi film industry and it shows no signs of stopping. However, Amitabh Bachchan's brave revelation on the matter may just make people look the other way.
The superstar told BollywoodLife that Deepika Padukone was paid more than him for "Piku." To give a clear picture, Amitabh shared an example from his own career.
"I don't know if this is relevant or not. Whether because of circumstances, but I can tell you one thing. In Piku, Deepika Padukone was paid more than me and that says two things – one that she is obviously more important than me and two, I have lost my price tag because I have been working for so long. Maybe I am not so important," Amitabh further elaborated.
The senior actor also loves the idea that Shah Rukh Khan endorses very religiously in all of his films. In the opening credits of each of SRK's film, the leading lady's name appears before his on the screen. Amitabh said that he doesn't mind even if, for "Pink," his name is mentioned after Tapsee Pannu's.
What's interesting to note is that there have been strong murmurs that Deepika is the highest-paid artiste in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati." She has apparently quoted Rs. 11 crore for playing the titular role. Ranveer Singh has charged his usual and Shahid Kapoor is reportedly going for a hike.
However, all the casting and remuneration speculations were laid to rest by Sanjay's spokesperson who said that all of them were baseless.
