Deepika Padukone had her date diary packed to capacity until a few months ago when she wrapped up her maiden Hollywood film "XXX: Return of Xander Cage."
Because she was away from home and couldn't commit to any Bollywood projects, Deepika decided to let go Aanand L Rai's next with Shah Rukh Khan. The leading lady had cited date issues as a reason for not taking up the film.
Now that the film has reportedly landed in Katrina Kaif's kitty, Deepika has been having problems and making not-so-gentle phone calls to Aanand. According to a DNA report, Deepika apparently questioned the director on not checking with her before finalising Katrina for the part.
Rumours have it that Deepika is making it seem like she has rejected the said film and later Katrina bagged it.
Deepika and Katrina do not have a great personal rapport, which has probably spilled into their professional equation as well.
A while ago, several tabloids claimed that the leading ladies have been snatching each other's films and it was Deepika who was cast in the film, as a result of which Katrina had to bow out of the as-yet-untitled project.
"He went ahead and cast DP in the film instead. It will now be her, SRK and another heroine who plays the second lead. Kat won't be comfortable playing second fiddle to Dippy. So, that film is out of the question," DNA quoted a source as saying.
What lies ahead for the young actresses?
Speculations are rife that Deepika will be playing the titular role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati," but she is yet to announce her next Bollywood film.
Katrina is gearing up her second release of the year — "Baar Baar Dekho." Romantic-drama packaged in a new concept, the film opens on Sept. 9 and stars Sidharth Malhotra in the lead.
