Standup comedian Kapil Sharma and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone have been honoured with Indian of the Year 2013 award for their respective contribution in the field of entertainment.
Over 11 Indians from the field of sports, politics, entertainment, business and public service categories were honoured with Indian of the Year award on Friday in an award function organised by a news channel.
The host of "Comedy Nights With Kapil", Kapil Sharma was given the award in the entertainment section for the outstanding success of his debut television comedy show.
Bollywood stars including Deepika Padukone , Shah Rukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar and team Lunchbox were also nominated for the award in entertainment category. However, Kapil won the award by beating the other Bollywood leading stars.
"It's the year of the common man and I am also one of them. To be awarded amidst such eminent personalities and dignitaries it's a great achievement in itself. Special thanks to CNN-IBN to consider me an Indian of the year. I have always believed in working and entertaining the common man and that I think is the success mantra of my life," Kapil said.
"Chennai Express" starrer, Deepika received special achievement award from her father and former badminton star Prakash Padukone for her enduring performances as leading ladies in films like "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Chennai Express" and "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela".
"This award is for my parents who allowed me to live my dream. This is only possible because my parents believed in me more than I believed in myself. They supported and encouraged me throughout," Deepika said after receiving the award.
