Deepika Padukone is all set to make her Hollywood debut in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, but the actress will be seen speaking in her usual Indian accent in the movie.
Deepika is very happy to be able to speak in her original accent in the film and she is of the opinion that Indian accent should also get global acceptance like British or Australian accent.
"And why not? For years, we have accepted the British and Australian accent, for example. So its high time we accept an Indian accent," said Deepika in a statement. Deepika said that she is delighted for having the chance to speak in her original Indian accent in a Hollywood film as she is playing an Indian character in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.
"I play an Indian girl in the film, and for me it's a matter of great pride that I get to be myself. That is one of the aspects that drew me to the script and attracted me to do this film, the fact that for once, I was allowed to be myself is fantastic. I was allowed to flaunt that I am Indian" she added.
When asked if accent does not matter to her, she said: "Of course such things (accents) matter, but this one particular film and role gave me an opportunity to be proud of who i am and where i come from. Why wont i make most of it?"
However, to some it may appear as a hidden dig at Priyanka Chopra who is also set to make her Hollywood debut in Baywatch movie. Priyanka's changed accent for her projects in the West has been much talked about. Moreover, there have always been rumours of a cold war prevailing between the two divas. Nevertheless, Deepika also feels that "will happen on project-to-project basis or role-to-role basis."
