The holiday on Tuesday holiday the collections of films "Dedh Ishqiya" and "Yaariyan" at the domestic box offices.
The income of the Abhishek Chaubey directorial "Dedh Ishqiya" saw a significant development on Tuesday due to Makar Sankranti, Bhogali Bihu, Lohri, Pongal and Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi holiday across the country.
The fifth day income of comedy thriller "Dedh Ishqiya" stands between ₹2 to ₹2.5 crore, taking its overall accumulation to ₹16.25 crore.
Despite the fact that the five day earnings are really low, the film has now earned the production cost of 15 crore. "Dedh Ishqiya" is holding well at the box office due to positive word of mouth and critical appreciation.
"Dedh Ishqiya" is a sequel to Vidya Balan starrer "Ishqiya" which was released in 2010. The film also features Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, Huma Qureshi and Vijay Raaz in major roles.
But it is Divya Khosla Kumar's debut directorial "Yaariyan" that has emerged as the box office winner this week. Though it was thrashed by critics, the youth-centric film has been doing pretty well at the collection centers.
"Yaariyan", starring several newcomers, has already become an average hit film by earning the production cost within four days.
After registering a good opening weekend, the accumulations went down 50 percent on Monday. The Tuesday holiday also did not benefit "Yaariyan" much as its collection was in the same run as of Monday.
The romantic film, based on college life, raked in around ₹2.5 crore on Monday and Tuesday respectively, according to boxofficeindia. The overall five-day domestic total of the film is ₹24.2 crore.
