Both Dear Zindagi and Kahaani 2 witnessed limited release, in terms of screen count. However, while Shah Rukh Khan's slice-of-life film has stayed steady in the two weeks since it arrived in theatres, Vidya Balan's thriller is struggling.
In 15 days, Dear Zindagi has collected Rs. 61.49 crore at the domestic box office and Kahaani 2 has raked in Rs. 23.71 crore in seven days. These films cannot be compared, but Kahaani 2 has shown a steady growth in its box office numbers; the figures have been dropping since start of week one.

What worked for Dear Zindagi and what didn't work for Kahaani 2?
Dear Zindagi narrates stories on love and relationships in the most relatable way possible. Also, the rare Alia Bhatt-Khan combination brought in some money.
Kahaani 2 came with a baggage. The first part was received well and went on to become a sleeper hit. Therefore, the pre-release buzz for the sequel was unbelievable and the expectations from it were high. However, for whatever reasons, audience didn't show much love to Balan's latest release.
Despite the cash crunch, viewers are flocking to the theatres to see a therapist guide a confused soul and preferring it to a murder mystery.
