Dear Zindagi, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, which opened in the US on Wednesday, November 23, two days prior to its release in India (November 25), has collected a impressive amount at the US box office on its opening day.
The Gauri Shinde film, which was released in the long weekend (Thanksgiving Day holiday), has managed to rake in $172,571 (Rs 1.19 crore) in the US box office on its first day. "#DearZindagi had a midweek release in USA [Thanksgiving Weekend]... Collected an IMPRESSIVE $ 172,571 [₹ 1.19 cr] on Wednesday. @Rentrak," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The fans in US, who have watched the film, are going crazy about the power-packed performances of Shah Rukh and Alia. They claim the movie to be refreshing and light-hearted with a positive message.
In India, the movie is expected to break a few records of first day collection at domestic box office. As per early estimates, Dear Zindagi will witness 35 percent occupancy and will collect approximately Rs 8-10 crore on its opening day.
Although the demonetisation drive in India is likely to hit the collection of the film to a certain extent, positive word-of-mouth publicity may help the movie's overall business.
Dear Zindagi has been making tremendous buzz, as it has a unique star cast combination of Shah Rukh and Alia. It narrates the story of a budding cinematographer Kaira (played by Alia) who meets a psychiatrist Jehangir Khan or Jug (played by Shah Rukh).
Jug helps a heartbroken Kaira gain a new perspective on love and life. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Productions and Hope Productions, Dear Zindagi also stars Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar and Aditya Roy Kapur.
