Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt-starrer Dear Zindagi has taken the box office by storm. The relatively small-budget film has been doing well in overseas as well as domestic circuits. Dear Zindagi has grossed over Rs. 100 crore in just eight days of its release.
By the end of eighth day (or first Friday), Dear Zindagi had grossed Rs. 68.40 crore in the domestic circuit and Rs. 31.80 crore overseas, which made its total 8-day gross collection at Rs. 100.20 crore. Because the film is going strong and steady at the box office, it would be okay to say that it will add a few more crores by the end of its second weekend.
Dear Zindagi has collected Rs. 3.50 crore on its first Saturday, taking its domestic nett collection to Rs, 52.75 crore. The Gauri Shinde-directed film is expected to show considerable growth on Sunday as it isn't facing stiff competition from Kahaani 2.
Taran Adarsh tweeted: #DearZindagi shows 55.56% growth on Sat... [Week 2] Fri 2.25 cr, Sat 3.50 cr. Total: Rs. 52.75 cr. India biz.
Meanwhile, the Dear Zindagi cast and crew are in a celebratory mood as their film has entered the coveted 100-crore club with effortless ease.
So what brought along this phenomenal success?
About a troubled young soul — Kaira (played by Bhatt) — who cannot seem to have her way around men, Dear Zindagi is a refreshing film that comes at a time when Bollywood is busy churning commercial hokum to film enthusiasts. Another plus that seem to be working in the film's favour is Khan bringing out his charming side to play a wise therapist — Jehangir Khan — to Kaira. Directed by Shinde, this slice-of-life film features a spontaneous conversational narrative that appeals to those tackling heartbreaks and the negative emotions that come with it.
