Nissan's sub-brand Datsun has officially started booking for the redi-Go hatchback in India on Sunday, May 1, and the company will launch the car in the beginning of June. The new hatchback of Datsun was first showcased as concept at the Auto Expo 2014 and the company was perfecting the production-spec model for the past two years. The redi-Go is pitted against the Kwid, the small car of Renault India that took the segment by storm. The competition will get tougher after the arrival of the redi-Go. We have compared both the cars after compiling all the available information.
Engine
The Kwid is powered by a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm mated a 5-speed manual gearbox. Datsun redi-Go is powered by the exact same engine with identical specifications. The engine is shared for the two cars as part of the alliance between Renault and Nissan.
Dimension
The redi-Go measures 3,429mm in length, 1,560mm in width and 1,541mm of height. The Datsun hatchback also boasts of 185mm of ground clearance and runs on 13-inch wheels. Renault Kwid measures 3,679mm in length, 1,579 mm in width and 1,478mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,422mm. It has 180mm of ground clearance and comes with 13-inch wheels.
Colours
Datsun redi-Go is available in five colours -- Ruby Red, White, Silver, Lime Green, and Gray. Renault Kwid is also sold in five colours -- Fiery Red, Outback Bronze, Moonlight Sliver, Planet Gray, Ice Cool White.
Fuel Efficiency
Renault Kwid comes with an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl, which is segment leading. Datsun has not officially revealed the actual figures yet. However, the company at the product presentation on April 14 said the redi-Go will be highly fuel efficient.
Price
Dastun confirmed the redi-Go will be priced in the range of Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh. Renault Kwid prices at present starts at Rs. 2.62 lakh for the base variant and goes up to Rs. 3.67 lakh for the top-spec variant (ex-showroom, Delhi).
