Japanese carmaker Nissan's India subsidiary, Nissan Motor India, continued positive sales momentum in October powered by its sub-brand Datsun India. The carmaker sold 6,108 vehicles in October 2016 against 3,246 units sold in the same month a year ago to register 88 percent of growth.
The key vehicle behind the spike in sales is the Datsun redi-Go hatchback. Datsun launched the limited edition of the redi-Go suffixed with Sport at the end of September. The demand for this model also improved sales of Datsun thereby Nissan India.
"Our solid performance and overall growth of 88 per cent in October has been possible with the continued robust performance of the Datsun redi-Go and tremendous response to the recently launched redi-Go Sport version," said Arun Malhotra, managing director, Nissan Motor India.
With October sales, the company posted over 5,000 units of sale in the country for five straight months since June. During the period from April to October, Nissan India sold 35,147 units of vehicles against 22,180 units sold in the same period last year, registering a growth of 54 percent.
Nissan recently announced its plans to launch 800 more units of the redi-Go Sport version in addition to the original plan of 1000 units due to demand. The redi-Go gets a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor that churns out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and claims to return a fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl.
On Nissan's stable, the company introduced automated manual transmission (AMT) equipped version of the Terrano SUV in India on October 15. The Terrano AMT has been priced starting at Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Nissan will launch the iconic sports car, the GT-R in India on December 2.
