A new prototype of Datsun's upcoming small car redi-Go has been snapped, this time showing the model in its production guise, indicating its imminent arrival. Datsun redi-Go is expected to go on sale in India in May this year.
Caught on camera by a Team BHP forum member, the redi-Go is seen hiding under significant amount of camouflage in the latest spy shots as well. Codenamed DatsunI2, the redi-Go is the car-maker's second model to be built on the CMF-A (Common Modular Family) platform, the same platform of Renault's latest offering, the Kwid.
Datsun had showcased the redi-Go concept at the Auto Expo 2014, and from the images we have seen so far, the small car gets the same silhouette of the concept model. To be pitted against Maruti Alto K10 and Hyundai Eon when launched in India, redi-Go is likely to be pegged at a price point of Rs 3 lakh with more than 95 percent localisation.
A recent report of ET Auto said the new redi-Go would get 1.2-litre petrol engines under the hood that do duty in the Go hatchback and the Go+ MPV. The transmission in the redi-Go is expected to be taken care of by either five-speed manual transmission or automated manual transmission.
Although the redi-Go was expected to be part of Datsun's pavilion at the Auto Expo 2016, the company showcased only the Go-Cross concept.
