It looks like Japanese auto-maker Nissan is having a Kwid-like moment in India with its low-cost brand Datsun's latest offering the redi-Go. Nissan India, for the third straight month, has recorded over 5,000 units of sale in the country.
Riding on the redi-Go, Nissan posted 111 percent year-on-year growth in August with the sales of 5,918 vehicles as against 2,809 units a year ago. Although the company has not released the sales figure of the redi-Go, it is being said that the small hatchback of Datsun has received over 20,000 bookings in the country since its launch in June.
"This is the third straight month that Nissan Motor has sold over 5,000 vehicles in one month. Our robust performance continued in August thanks to the strong sales of the Datsun redi-GO and its positive reception across India. We were also delighted to be ranked second in the JD Power Asia Pacific 2016 India Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI), which shows we are providing a better experience to customers," said Guillaume Sicard, president, Nissan India Operations.
Japanese auto-maker Nissan had registered a growth of 126 percent in July and 188 percent in June this year. Datsun redi-Go, the entry level hatchback, is pitted against front-runners in the segment like Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and Renault Kwid in India.
Powering the redi-Go is a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor that churns out 53bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm. The redi-Go claims to return a fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The redi-Go, the third offering of Datsun in the Indian market, has been priced attractively at Rs. 2.38 lakh for the base variant (ex-showroom Delhi).
