Nissan's low-cost brand Datsun is gearing up to launch the highly anticipated redi-Go in India as early as April. The small car from the company, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2014, is reportedly set to make its market entry April 14, a Carandbike report said.
Datsun redi-Go, expected to be priced lower than Renault Kwid, is based on the same platform that underpins the Kwid hatchback. Datsun currently has two other models — GO hatchback and GO+ MPV — in the domestic market, and hopes to expand its reach with redi-Go. Earlier reports had said that the company has started the trial production of redi-Go at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, Chennai.
In terms of styling and features, redi-Go is likely to come packed with the same features as Kwid. Early reports said redi-Go will have the silhouette of the concept model unveiled at the Auto Expo. With more than 95% localisation, redi-Go is expected to carry a price tag of under Rs 3.5 lakh.
Powering the small car is likely to be an 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a five-speed manual transmission. An automated manual transmission (AMT) version is also likely to be offered.
