Nissan's sub-brand Datsun is all set to unveil its third car for India on April 14, and ahead of the launch, the company has teased an image of the upcoming hatchback. The new hatchback is based on the CMF-A platform developed by Renault and Nissan. The design will be inspired by the redi-Go concept unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016.
The teaser image hardly reveals any information on the upcoming car, while the silhouette looks like similar to the redi-Go concept. The CMF-A platform is currently used for the Renault Kwid and the new hatchback is also expected to be competitive in terms of pricing.
The hatchback recently spotted testing under camouflage in Chennai. The prototype of the redi-Go saw flaunting new features and also sports a crossover-like plastic rear bumper. In terms of features, the redi-Go is expected with all the features of the Kwid, except the touchscreen.
Under the hood, Datsun redi-Go is likely to get an 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a five-speed manual transmission. An automated manual transmission (AMT) version and a 1.0-litre engine are expected to join the line-up later. The redi-Go is also rumoured to get a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine developed by Nissan on a later stage. The introduction of the diesel in redi-Go will give a USP to the car, as its rivals — Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon — do not offer diesel engines.
