In the age of Tinder, when one decides whether they want to date someone or not on the basis of a photograph, this comes as a breath of fresh air. According to a study published in Royal Society Open Science journal, being creative makes a man much more attractive to a woman.
For the study, the researchers showed 104 volunteers photos of men and women and asked them to rate the people in the photographs on the basis of their looks. Then a small description was added to each photo to give the volunteers an idea of the person's creative personality.
It was found that average-looking men, who the women thought were creative, got a higher rating compared to men who just looked good.
Meanwhile, men seem to have a different opinion. Good-looking women were rated much higher compared to creative, average-looking women.
"Creative women with less attractive faces seem to be perhaps penalised in some way," AFP quoted Dr Christopher Watkins, a psychologist at Abertay University in Scotland, who carried out the research.
The study also found that women preferred creativity, not just in their partners, but it plays a major role even when it comes to choosing friends.
