Dasari Narayana Rao, who was admitted to KIMS hospital in Hyderabad, breathed his last on Tuesday while undergoing a reconstructive surgery of Oesophagus. The 75-year-old veteran director developed a complication following the surgery and died at 7:00 pm on May 30. His two kidneys failed and later he suffered a cardiac arrest leading to death, the doctors said.
Born in Palakollu, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh on 4 May, 1942, Dasari Narayana Rao made his debut as a director with the movie Thatha Manavadu in 1972. The movie being a hit at the box office, he went on to direct around 150 movies and produce more than 50 movies in Telugu and Hindi. He also worked as a dialogue writer and lyricist. He contribution to the Indian film industry, especially Telugu, is enormous.
The film fraternity was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Dasari Narayana Rao's demise. Several celebrities rushed to the hospital to pay their last respects while some waited at his residence to take a last glimpse of him. The news spread on social media like wildfire. Millions of fans recalled their favourite movies directed by him and paid tributes to the director.
His body was kept at his residence from 6 a.m. to enable people to pay their last respects and it was later shifted to the office of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce where film industry bid him adieu. T Srinivas Yadav, Telangana cinematography minister paid last tributes to Rao. He announced that the body will be taken to his farmhouse in Chevella on the outskirts of Hyderabad through a procession and cremated there with state honours.
