The controversy surrounding the title of Darshan's next movie 'Wodeyar' might possibly see an end after Pramoda Devi, 'Rajamatha' of the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru, stated that she has no objections with the movie name.
Pramoda Devi told reporters that the issue will only arise if the movie is about their family. "I had written to the production house when the movie was announced. So far, I have not received any explanation from them. It is an adopted name to us, given by 'jangamaru' (monks)."
"It is a general name and can be used as long as it has no references to our family," Devi added. She refused to comment on the complaints filed by fringe groups as she was not aware of it.
Fringe groups like Kannada Kranthi Dal and Arasu Yuvajana Vedike had raised objections against the movie name claiming that the royal family made a significant contribution to the state of Karnataka. According to the groups, the title has an emotional connect with the people, who treat the Kings of Mysuru like Gods. Hence, they claimed that the permission should not be given for such movies with a commercial intent.
Arasu Yuvajana Vedike had also filed a complaint against the movie with the KR police station in Mysuru.
Wodeyar, directed by MD Sridhar, will be launched on August 16. The much-awaited movie is produced by Sandesh Nagaraj and is a remake of Tamil movie Veeram.
