Aamir Khan's 2016 film Dangal, which was recently released in China, made a historic collection at the Chinese box office in 12 days. It became the second Asian movie to make more than $100 million overseas.
Released on May 5, the Aamir Khan-starrer did a superb business at the Chinese box office in its second weekend and continued its success even on weekdays. When compared to its second Sunday collection, Dangal witnessed a 60 percent drop its business on its second Monday. But its collection on second Monday and Tuesday is more than the double the opening day collection ($2.08 million).
Dangal collected $4.95 million and $4.92 million at the Chinese box office on its second Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and its 12-day total collection has reached $70.33 million (Rs 450.39 crore) in the country. Released in theatres on December 23 2016, Dangal collected $31.30 million at the overseas box office in its lifetime. Now its collection in China has helped the Aamir Khan-starrer surpass the mark of $100 million. Its total international collection has reached $101.63 million.
Dangal has become the first Indian movie to cross the $100 million mark at the overseas box office. Ramesh Bala, an observer of Indian film industry, tweeted: "@aamir_khan 's #Dangal officially becomes #India's 1st Cross-over Hit in the International arena.. Having grossed $100 M Overseas."

Chinese movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which was released in theatres in 2000, is the only Asian movie to cross $100 million mark at the overseas box office in the last two decades. Now, Dangal has become the second Asian movie to cross this historic milestone in international markets.
