Monday's episode of "Dancing with the Stars" kicked off the finale of the dancing reality show that had the three finalists – Nyle DiMarco, Paige VanZant and Ginger Zee – battling it out before Tuesday's grand event that will see one of them getting crowned the winner of Season 22 of the ABC dancing reality show.
All three contestants have been consistent in their performances, but DiMarco seems to have an edge over the others. The deaf model is a fan-favourite and he has always been among the top three performers throughout the season.
Their routine to Disturbed's "Sound of Silence" cover earned them high praises from the judges, with judge Carrie Ann Inaba saying their performance was the best in the history of the show.
"It really touched me," said DiMarco, reported Glamour. "I don't mean to use the deaf card often, but as a deaf guy, [the fact that] I was able to produce the best dance in 22 seasons [is incredible]. I think that's really what makes it the best and more personal."
Peta Murgatroyd, his dancing partner, added: "I wanted it to be so powerful and so undeniably touching for everybody. I think we did it. Nyle has left everything on that dance floor. I don't think we could do anymore."
However, DiMarco is currently in the bottom of the leaderboard, having received only 27 for his redemption dance. VanZant ended up at the top of the leaderboard, and second is Zee, who danced irrespective of a pelvis injury.
"On Thursday there was definitely a point where the physical therapist said, 'Stop. You can't dance anymore right now,' " Zee told reporters, reported People. "I didn't know how that was going to play out. The next day I felt a little bit better, but she said, 'Don't do any of the [lifts].' So I hadn't done my dances full out all the way through until today. That was scary."
"Dancing with the Stars" season 22 finale will air on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
