A Dalit girl from Odisha, who has been in coma ever since she was allegedly raped and strangled last November, has been shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi for better treatment.
Chief Secretary B.K. Patnaik said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered a judicial probe into the alleged rape. The panel will be headed by retired High Court judge Justice P.K. Mohanty and is expected to submit the report in three months.
The government had earlier suspended Pipili police station in-charge Anil Champatiray for failing to register a case even a day after the alleged rape was reported, on November 28. A case was registered on January 9, only after the intervention of the Orissa High Court and State Human Rights Commission.
The High Court, earlier this week directed the police to arrest all four accused named in the FIR. It also ordered the government to provide free treatment to the victim.
