The 2016 Toyota Innova is slated to debut in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, and its launch is expected in the second half of next year. The new Innova comes with comprehensive changes to the exterior, interior, powertrains and features, that has resulted in a higher price in Indonesia. It will be reflected on its launch in India as well.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors suspects the increase in price will steer away prospective customers. The company reportedly plans to continue the current-generation Innova, which will be renamed as Innova Cross, to address the issue. A report from Oncars indicates the Innova Cross will come with stripped-out features and more rugged looks. The Innova Cross is expected to get body claddings and roof rails in line with the Etios Cross sedan of Toyota. The report also says the name has already been registered by Toyota.
The Innova Cross will be pitted against the Honda Mobilio RS trim, a rugged version of the regular Mobilio. However, the Innova Cross will practically lock horn with the regular Mobilio models and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. This also means a pricing of under Rs 10 lakh can be expected.
While, the new Innova comes with a 2.4-litre GD engine, the Innova Cross will continue with the current engine. The in-line four-cylinder, 2,494cc engine develops 100bhp at 3,600rpm and 200Nm of torque mated to five-speed manual transmission.
