Manchester United's two biggest signings in the summer came to the fore on Wednesday, scoring the two goals that gave their team a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The two goals came late in either half, giving Jose Mourinho's side a second straight win.
Considering Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham all won on Wednesday, it was vital for Manchester United to do the same as well, and they only managed it via an 88th minute strike from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Wayne Rooney had a chance for Manchester United first up, taking a lobbed pass from Pogba, before forcing a nice save off Wayne Hennessey. Pogba's volley, off a Michael Carrick pass, was also saved by the Crystal Palace goalkeeper, before the Frenchman gave Manchester United the lead in first half stoppage time.
A freekick from Juan Mata was chested down by Ibrahimovic onto his arm and then into the path of Pogba, with the midfielder slotting the ball in from five yards out, even though the replays showed he was a touch offside when the ball came through.
James McArthur, though, got it back to 1-1 for Crystal Palace, finishing calmly off a fine team move from the home team.
Manchester United pushed for the winner with Rooney forcing another save from Hennessey, while the away side also had a penalty appeal turned down when Joe Ledley seemed to handle the ball in the area. Juan Mata thought he had finally found the winner, tapping-in off a Marcos Rojo head down, only for the offside flag, raised incorrectly, to scupper those hopes.
Man Utd, however, would find their winner, with Pogba this time laying the ball through for Ibrahimovic, who applied a perfect finish from an angle.
The win kept Manchester United in sixth, six points off fourth-placed Man City. Mourinho's side are 13 points off the leaders Chelsea, but a second win in two will give them a lot of confidence as they look to find that consistency in results that has been missing all season.
