Suspected terrorists attacked a patrol party of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Handwara town in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Monday, May 4. Three CRPF personnel were martyred in today's terrorist attack in Handwara and one terrorist has been neutralised near the Qaziabad area.
"Three causalities are being reported. It was Alfa-92 company," a CRPF spokesman based in Srinagar told media. More troopers of the CRPF are reported to be critical. However, an official statement on the matter is awaited.
Three civilians have been injured in the incident. In the last 24 hours, six ceasefire violations have been made. The security forces have cordoned off the area and a search operation is underway.
The terrorists reportedly came in a car and fired at the CRPF party. Meanwhile, several speculations are doing the rounds like terrorists were seen wearing bulletproof jackets, which were supposedly stolen from the Indian Army day before yesterday.
The attack on the CRPF personnel comes a day after an intense gunfight between the security forces and terrorists, in which five soldiers were martyred and two terrorists were gunned down.
The Handwara encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district lasted for around 8 hours. Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, Major Anuj Sood, Naik Rajesh Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Singh, and Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector Shakeel Qazi were killed in this encounter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences on martyrdom of five security personnel and said that their valour and sacrifice will never be never forgotten.
