It seems that it was not just the fans who mourned the departure of Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) from FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit (BAU) in Season 11 of CBS' "Criminal Minds." Morgan's best friend Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) was also devastated by it.
Though Morgan has just left BAU and is not dead, it is going to be a difficult task for Reid to work with FBI in his absence. With Adam Rodriguez's character joining the unit, there is a significant possibility that Reid's emotions will resurface.
Talking about how Reid will be coping at work in Season 12, executive producer of the series Erica Messer told TV Guide: "You don't just get over losing your best friend at work. That is something that changes your day. You adapt and you move on, and life goes on."
Though Morgan has moved away from BAU, the other members of the unit can always contact him whenever his assistance is required.
"It's not like he's [Spencer Reid has] lost him [Derek Morgan] from his life forever; he can always call Morgan. I don't know how much we'll play it actively, but I think it's one more layer that all of them can tap into as we move into Season 12," Messer said.
In Season 11 finale, Mr Scratch and several other murderers had escaped prison that included 13 high priority serial killers. The BAU will be chasing them and trying its best to put them back behind the bars in the upcoming season.
"Criminal Minds" will return with Season 12 on Sept. 28, 2016 on CBS.
