The CPL 2016 match between Barbados Tridents and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots was interrupted for several minutes after two players of the visiting team -- JJ Smuts and Kieran Powell -- were involved in a nasty head-on collision in the outfield at the Kensington Oval in Barabados on Wednesday. The incident happened towards the end of the first innings.
AB de Villiers was on a roll and he was going hammer and tongs against Patriots in Match 14 of CPL 2016 on Wednesday. During his knock, he blasted a shot towards the midwicket area and the two players converged to try and take a catch, only to collide with each other.
Powell and Smuts remained dazed for several minutes as the medical team from both sides approached went to help.
Powell was eventually carried out on a stretcher and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He did not come out to bat in the second innings. However, Smuts did open the innings for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, half an hour after the collision.
There has been no communication from the medical team of the Patriots as yet regarding Powell's status.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots lost the match by 25 runs in the end. This was their fifth defeat in CPL 2016 and they are in the bottom half of the points table.
Tridents, on the other hand, climbed up to the second position in the CPL 2016 points table with the win on Wednesday.
