Veteran Communist Party of India leader and former Assam minister Pramod Gogoi passed away at a hospital in Guwahati on Friday morning.
The 82-year-old Left leader was admitted to the hospital on April 2 when he returned from Bihar. "Comrade Gogoi who attended the 21st Party Congress at Patna and was elected to the National Executive and had been Secretary of the National Council in the past returned to Assam capital day before. After some complain of shivering he was admitted to hospital where brain hammerage proved fatal," said a condolence message by the CPI.
Gogoi was elected to the Assam assembly for the first time in 1967 from Sivasagar. He got elected to the Assembly five times.
He joined the CPI in 1984. He had been the minister of flood control and irrigation in the state between1996 and 2001.
