Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan is all set to introduce New York fashionistas to the flavour of the Southeast Asian country as she gets ready to showcase her "Sasikirana" collection at the Couture New York Fashion Week 2015, which begins on 11 September and goes on untill 13 September.
For the "Sasikirana" collection, the designer has used intricate detailing in her designs in batik style popular to the region. She has blended the batik with gold thread work, which she believes lends a rich and elegant texture to her creation. Additionally some of the pieces even feature sequins and Swarovski crystals.
"In Sanskrit, Sasikirana means moonlight, in accordance with my designs that feature elements of gold," The Jakarta Post quoted Hasibuan as saying.
A particular ensemble will also be paired with a special accessory – a crown – that adds to its glamour quotient.
Speaking about how she landed a slot at the Couture Fashion Week, Hasibuan said in a press conference that she received an offer from the event organisers about two months ago, according to Indonesian website Okezone.
She said that even though designing for the event was a long and time consuming process, the end product clicked perfectly with the event and hence things worked out. She explained that 80% of the preparations have been completed as of now.
The collection will feature 15 pieces in the form of dresses and Kaftans and sticking to the traditions, the models will be seen wearing hijabs.
Meanwhile, this isn't the first time Hasibuan is showcasing her creations on such a platform. The 28-year-old designer debuted her creations at Kaftan festival in Westfield, London, earlier this year, after which she also featured in a fashion show in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Hasibuan will showcase her rich and elegant collection on 12 September at the Crowne Plaza Times Square, Manhattan.
