A court in Hyderabad has directed the police to register an FIR against Bollywood actress Genelia D'Souza and five others in connection with a Rs 250-crore housing scam.
It has been alleged that Genelia, who is the brand ambassador of Anjani Puthra Infrastructure Private Ltd (APIPL), and others cheated consumers by promising to construct duplex houses in Kalvakol village of Maheswaram mandal.
The complainant, C H Tirupataiah, accused the actress of making false promises through ads and brochures and said she was directly involved in cheating him.
The complainant stated that he bought two plots in December 2008 in Kalvakol in the name of his son and daughter-in-law, paying Rs 54 lakh. However, after a couple of months, when he tried to contact Sudarshan Kumar Reddy, one of the directors of the APIPL, he didn't get any response.
The court instructed the police to inquire and submit a report on or before March 27.
