If you are looking to shop for some new accessories for your gaming console this Christmas, there are plenty of options available with great discounts. But if your search is particularly for a new gaming headset, you might be interested in Corsair's VOID stereo gaming headset.
Corsair has an interesting line of headsets among other products and the VOID stereo gaming is one of the mid-range products in its portfolio. It is available globally and priced at $65 in the US and costs Rs 7,669 in India. The VOID headset is primarily targeted towards gamers, but it can also be used for your daily entertainment doses.
First let's talk about the design. Overall we found the Corsair VOID stereo headset quite comfortable and suitable for your long gaming sessions. It has sufficient cushion padding for the earcups and the headband, which is partly responsible for the comfort. The metal chassis is covered with premium-grade plastic, which doesn't feel cheap at all. In fact, it gives durability to the headset.
The earcups are designed in a way that they do not press on the ear, rather comfortably surround them like a tiny room. Despite the bulky design, the headphones are quite light and the weight is evenly distributed. We are especially thankful for the microfiber cushions as we all know the challenges of leather-coated earcups during long gaming sessions.
The left earcup has all the controls. There is a volume wheel located at the bottom rear side and a 100-degree rotating microphone. The wired connection to the headphone is well secured on both ends to avoid tearing over time. Another important addition is a mute button placed right on the left earcup, which is easily accessible in case you do not want your gaming partners to hear your breathe or chew during your sessions.
The 3.5mm jack cord is generously long and the headset comes with a Y connector for your gaming laptops. With Corsair's VOID headset, you can sit comfortably at a favourable distance. If you are using this headphone with your mobile phone or tablet, there will be a lot of extra wire hanging. You will need to tuck in the extras in your bag or pocket.
We wouldn't rate down Corsair headphones for their design. They are fancy, comfortable and durable.
Now, moving on to the important area of the quality of sound it delivers. We had the chance to test the headphones during our gaming sessions as well as watching movies and listening to songs. In our view, it is mainly meant for console gaming than for on-the-go use.
The quality of the sound is impressive. Well balanced surround, base and clarity makes it ideal for first-person shooting and racing games. But we lost some details while listening to music on high volumes. In the games, even with high volume, there was no distress. In fact, it managed to shut out any disturbances and truly pushes you into the game.
The microphone clarity is also decent enough. There isn't really a way to push the mic away from your mouth, which is the only setback. But you don't want the gamers on the other end to hear your breathe or chew. We mostly pushed the mic over to the head and used the chat instead during online games. The mute button did come in handy at that point in time.
In our view, if you are considering a gaming headset then Corsair VOID can be your choice. But let's warn you that it is not a high-end piece of hardware, so if your expectations are too high from this then prepare for some disappointment. You must know it is a mid-range headphone and justifies the price tag fairly well.
