One aspiring actress became a victim of cyber crime when a fraudster impersonated as Ekta Kapoor, owner of Balaji Telefilms, and offered her a role in a telefilm.
The victim, identified as Anjali Badhoria -- a resident of Andheri in Mumbai, was lured with a role in Ekta Kapoor's serial and was duped of Rs 7 lakh.
The accused created a fake Facebook account in the name of Ekta Kapoor and convinced Anjali to transfer the money in exchange of a role in a serial under Balaji Telefilms banner. The issue came to the limelight when the victim approached Balaji Telefilms office and asked about the role.
"The fraudster created a fake Facebook profile of producer Ekta Kapoor and sent a friend invite to the victim. He made a false promise of a role in a telefilm under the Balaji Telefilms banner. The producer neither advertised nor made any friend request," Times of India quoted Pratik Sanghvi, an employee of Balaji Telefilms, as saying.
Sanghvi also lodged a police complaint after learning about the incident. "Details have been sought from the bank to which she transferred the money. Also we are trying to get details if others also fell for the trap," the report quoted an investigator as saying.
