Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday appealed to the Haryana government to assist the rain-affected farmers whose crops have been destroyed by the recent heavy rainfall in Northern India.
According to PTI, the Congress President urged the BJP-led state government to provide compensation to the farmers, who have suffered crop failure.
Sonia Gandhi visited Haryana after growing concern about farmer issues, following the recent Land Bill that had been termed as anti-farmer.
"What do they want? They just want relief. I appeal to the government to give right and timely compensation to these farmers. That is what the government's responsibility is," she was quoted as saying.
Sonia Gandhi is on a one-day visit to Haryana during which she will visit several villages in Rohtak district including Gurwara, Surakhpur, Jakkhala Road, Gudiani, Mubarikpur Chowk and Rattanthal. She had visited several villages in the neighbouring Rajasthan's Kota district on Friday.
