Reports of a sequel to the blockbuster Aamir Khan starrer "3 Idiots" (2009), which also had Sharman Joshi, R. Madhavan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles, have been doing the rounds for some time now.
Director Rajkumar Hirani announced recently that he is up for a sequel. Both Hirani and screenwriter Abhijat Joshi have reportedly started working on it.
The director, confirming the sequel, told Deccan Chronicle, "Yes, we are working on the subject and have cracked the idea. But it will take some time."
The project is still in its initial stage, although, the team has started its research work but the film is not expected to go on floors anytime soon.
With the sequel news, it now remains to be seen if the next instalment of the blockbuster will have the perfectionist play the lead role.
Meanwhile, Hirani is busy promoting his upcoming film "PK" that has Aamir and Anushka Sharma in lead roles.
The film revolves around how an alien lands on Earth and puts on several avatars in order to survive on the planet. Apparently, the 48-year-old will be playing a dual role, as an alien and God.
The director is also working on the biopic of Sanjay Dutt for which Ranbir Kapoor has been roped in .
In an interview with DNA, the "Munna Bhai"s series director also mentioned that he would dedicate his time to the biopic after the release of "PK".
