West Indies may be in the eighth position of the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for One Day Internationals (ODI) but they can disappoint any team on their day. Batsmen like Chris Gayles, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo have sent out the message through their performance in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) that they are here to demoralize bowlers.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2013 is set to kick off on 6 June with India and South Africa taking on each other in the opening match at Cardiff, Wales.
West Indies, who won the title in 2004, will play their first match on 7 June at Kennington Oval against Pakistan.
The tournament, which is considered second in importance only to Cricket World Cup, was introduced in 1998 with South African winning the first title. It features the top eight nations in the ICC One Day International (ODI) rankings. The countries that will participate this year are Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies.
A total number of 15 matches will be played in the tournament which will conclude on 23 June.
