Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a probe into the gunfire shot at communist leader Govind Pansare and his wife in Kolhapur on Monday morning.
"We have taken this attack very seriously and ordered investigation at the highest level. A team of top investigators will go to Kolhapur and find out details. We will not spare the killers. I have ordered top police officials of the state to oversee the investigation," Fadnavis was quoted as saying by The Economic Times.
The incident occurred around 8am when the couple was on their morning walk. Two unidentified men on a motorbike fired four rounds of shots at the couple near their house in Sagarmala in Kolhapur.
The 82-year-old leading campaigner against road toll taxes and his wife were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are undergoing treatment. The doctors at the hospital have said both husband and wife are in a critical condition and will be shifted to another hospital by afternoon.
Minister of state for Home, Ram Shinde, said he has ordered road to be barricaded across the state in order to nab the culprits.
