Kapil Sharma's "Comedy Nights With Kapil" is one of the most popular shows on Indian television and the news of it going off-air must have shattered many of its loyal viewers.
If recent reports are to be believed, the show will only be moved to another channel but not without taking a break of three months. A 9xe.com article claims that Kapil has been unhappy with the kind of treatment meted out to the show and so they have been talking to a rival group to air it.
"We may have to change the title, and even the format as these belong to Colors. But the core members of the show — Kapil, Sunil Grover, Ali Asgar, Kiku Sharda and Navjot Singh Sidhu — will remain," a source informed The Asian Age.
The funnyman, however, has confirmed the news saying that he's perfectly okay with the channel wanting to come up with new shows but it isn't fair when a pre-existing one is sabotaged.
"Yes, it's true. We told them we would go off air in December, but since they didn't have a replacement ready, they requested us to continue till January 17. We started on a good note and put in immense hard work to maintain the quality," The Times of India quoted him as saying.
However, a source further elaborated that "Comedy Nights Bachao" was supposed to be named Roast but then it took its name from Kapil's show and a few segments of it appear like rip-offs.
"It also looked like a clone as whatever happened in Kapil's show was replicated on Bachao.... They even recreated the Sunil Grover-Ranbir Kapoor's suhaag raat sequence with Krushna Abhishek and Ranveer Singh," the insider added.
