Jaspal Bhatti, the famous comedian who touched people's hearts with his efficacious humour, was cremated in Chandigarh on Thursday.
The 57-year-old actor died in a car accident early Thursday and was laid to rest at around 5 pm in Sector 25, Chandigarh. Bhatti's funeral pyre was lit by his son Jasraj, who was also injured in the accident.
The ceremony was attended by several well-known personalities including Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Punjab Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, Punjab Chief Minister's media advisor Harcharan Singh Bains and various artistes from Punjabi film fraternity including Gurdas Mann, Jasbir Jassi, Mehar Mittal and Gurpreet Ghuggi, according to NDTV.
Hundreds of mourners had stood outside the actor's Sector 19 residence to pay their last respects before he was taken to the cremation grounds.
"The king of comedy has left everyone in tears. He did not deserve this," one of his close associates told IANS.
Bhatti, his son, PRO Navneet Joshi and actress Surilie Gautam where travelling to Jalandhar for the promotion of his film "Power Cut" when his car collided with a tree on a highway. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared his dead on arrival.
Gautam, Joshi and Jasraj were severely injured in the incident.
Bhatti is survived by his wife Savita, who is also an actor, and his two children.
