South African stand-up comedian Trevor Noah is facing calls for a boycott after an offensive joke he made about Austalian indigenous women in 2013 that resurfaced online.
It was Australian photographer LaVonne Bobongie who initially shared the video in which Trevor Noah was seen calling Australian Aboriginal women ugly. The stand-up comedian is now facing heavy backlash on social media platforms for his derogatory comments, and many Australian nationals are urging to boycott Trevor's upcoming Australian tour which will begin on August 23, at Melbourne's Hisense Arena.
Well this is horrible. I’m surrounded by countless beautiful Aboriginal women @Trevornoah #boycotttrevornoahinoz https://t.co/gVeLXANzqA

"There's no such thing as the most beautiful race. All women of every race can be beautiful. And I know some of you are sitting there now going, 'Oh Trevor, yeah, but I've never seen a beautiful Aborigine'. Yeah, but you know what you say? You say 'yet', that's what you say; 'yet'. Because you haven't seen all of them, right?," said Trevor in 2013, during his standup special 'It is my Culture'.
Trevor in 2013 added that Australian Aboriginal women are capable of doing special things like, ''jump on top of you.''
As the video of Trevor's comments went viral, many indigenous Australians started lashing out against the comedian on social media sites. Former National Rugby League (NRL) player Joe Williams who himself is an indigenous Australian tweeted that Trevor's comments on Australian Aboriginal women are totally unacceptable. He also made it clear that Trevor is encouraging racism with his comments.
Hey @Trevornoah, your comments about Aboriginal @IndigenousX in this clip are utterly unacceptable! As a man of colour, you are usually in point with racism & divide - here you are perpetrating & encouraging racial abuse!! #boycotttrevornoahinoz https://t.co/UNXE8TlBtq RT

Joe Williams made these remarks after Australian academic Anita Heiss requested everyone to boycott the upcoming shows of Trevor in the country.
I am so disgusted and appalled by the comments by @Trevornoah and his attempted humour that denigrates Aboriginal women I hope Australians boycott his shows in #Brisbane #Sydney #Melbourne #Perth #Australia That kind of ‘humour’ is not funny and does damage! #racismitstopswithme https://t.co/yplwK2CtI7

Soon, Trevor Noah took down the video and assured that he will never ever promote the video again.
@joewilliams_tew you're right. After visiting Australia's Bunjilaka museum and learning about aboriginal history first hand I vowed never to make a joke like that again. And I haven't. I'll make sure the clip from 2013 is not promoted in any way.

Later, Australian writer and actress Nakkiah Lui who is a young leader in the Australian Aboriginal community tweeted that she is surrounded by beautiful aboriginal women who are real warrior goddesses.
Yo @Trevornoah,

Im Beautiful BECAUSE Im Aboriginal. Im Strong BECAUSE Im Aboriginal.
Im Loved BECAUSE Im Aboriginal.
Im Smart BECAUSE Im Aboriginal.
I am surrounded by Beautiful Aboriginal women who arent punchlines, theyre Warrior Goddesses #BeautifulBECAUSEImAboriginal
Australian Indigenous feminist and unionist Celeste Liddle commented that overlaying racism to get laughs is a disgrace.
Beauty is misogyny and judging women in such ways demonstrates your feelings of entitlement as a man. To then overlay racism as a way to get laughs - punching down to more vulnerable women - is a disgrace. I hope you're beyond both your racism and misogyny now.

This is not the first time that Noah is making derogatory racist comments. A week ago, after France won the world cup football title, Trevor commented that an African team has won the title as most of the French players were black. He was also previously blamed for making derogatory comments against Jewish women.
