A college student from Bengaluru who was wearing a 'hijab' (headscarf) had to undergo security check for about 40 minutes at Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday (June 7) after marshals raised "security concerns".

The girl who was visiting Vidhana Soudha to witness the state legislature session was part of a group of students from a college near Dairy Circle.
According to local media reports, the security authorities had initially asked the girl to remove the hijab, but when she refused, a woman personnel took her to a cabin where she was subjected to security check and frisking which lasted about 40 minutes. The student was later allowed to enter the premises.
Meanwhile, the security authorities have said that the checks were just a "routine procedure" and they do not intent to harass any individual over religious attire.
"Security marshals do their routine checks for lighters, matchboxes etc. This was part of security protocol followed by them inside the premises and nothing beyond it. We did not subject any student with such description to any checks," said a senior police officer.
