In yet another incident of falling trees killing school students, an 11-year-old school student was killed and another injured after a coconut tree fell on them in the school premises in Kozhikode, Kerala on Wednesday, 8 July.
Shajeel Ahmed, the Class VI student, died on the spot while the other student Dixit was badly injured and has been admitted to a hospital.
The incident happened when the boys were playing at the Government Upper Primary School in Meenchantha, Kozhikode.
The parents of the students had brought the dangerous condition of the tree to the notice of the school authorities, but they neglected it, reports IANS.
The Kozhikode district educational officer has been asked to submit a detailed report on the incident.
On 26 June, five kids were also killed after a tree fell atop a running school bus in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam. The incident occured when students of Viday Vikas School, Karukadom were on their way back home. Read more here.
In an unrelated incident involving school buses reported from Olarikkdavu, near Kattakada, Thiruvanathapuram, two buses of Chinthalaya Vidyalayam, Kallikkadu and AKLM School, Therumoodu collided with each other, injuring 20 students.
