Like "Bol Bachchan", Homi Adajania's "Cocktail" too got mixed reviews but it is going strong at the box office.
Saif Ali Khan, Diana Penty and Deepika Padukone starring movie "Cocktail" is the first romantic movie of this year to get such a grand opening at both Indian and international box office in the first weekend.
The movie is doing much better than Saif's last movie "Agent Vinod", but lower than "Love Aaj Kal" in the international market.
However, the movie successfully collected Rs 360 millions net in its opening weekend. On the day of release, the movie collected 110 million while the weekend collection was 250 million.
"#Cocktail collected approximately Rs 360 million net in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 110 million, Sat 120 million, Sun 13 million. Extra-ordinary!" trade analyst and film critics Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The movie is going exceptionally well at some multiplexes and also received good responses at single screens.
"#Cocktail is remarkable, faring exceptionally well at plexes. Had an extensive release at plexes, but limited screen count at s screens," Adarsh tweeted.
However, Adajania's debut film "Cocktail" has failed to break the opening weekend record of Rohit Shetty's "Bol Bachchan" and Prabhu Deva's "Rowdy Rathore".
Both "Bol Bachchan" and "Rowdy Rathore" did fairly well at the Indian box office and collected Rs 431 million and Rs 483 million respectively.
Cocktail's opening on Friday did affect the business of "Bol Bachchan" at both Indian and overseas market, but the romantic comedy starring Ajay Devgan and Abhishek Bachchan managed to come back strongly.
"#BolBachchan was affected by #Cocktail wave on Friday, but consolidated its status on Saturday [good] and Sunday [excellent]," Adarsh tweeted.
"Bol Bachchan" in its first week collected Rs 66.81 crore and in the second week it managed to rack Rs 82.44 cr nett.
"#BolBachchan witnesses BIG jump on Sunday. In CI circuit, for instance, day-wise biz is: Fri 14.75 lacs, Sat 23.50 lacs, Sun 35.95 lacs," he tweeted.
"#BolBachchan collected Rs 15.63 cr nett in Wknd 2, taking 10-day total to Rs 82.44 cr nett. Fri 3.25 cr, Sat 5.35 cr, Sun 7.03 cr. V good!"
