At least 10 people, including policemen, were injured as clashes erupted between people and police in Haryana's Palwal district on Thursday after villagers had stopped a truck allegedly carrying cow's meat.
"It was a clash between pro-cow volunteers and police. It was not any communal clash," R.S. Sangwan, Deputy Director of Public Relations (National Capital Region), Haryana, told IANS.
A police officer said six policeman and four villagers were injured in the clash and local people beat up the co-driver even as the driver managed to flee.
However, Palwal's Superintendent of Police Rajesh Duggal did not respond to calls made by IANS.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar told the media in Mewat district, about 90 km from Gurgaon, that a probe was launched into the incident.
