It's been barely a day since senior Congress leader and Kannada actor Ambareesh passed away, and now in a saddening development, veteran Congress leader Challakere Kareem Jaffer Sharief is also no more.
Former Union minister Jaffer Sharief, 85, was undergoing treatment for age-related illness for the past few weeks. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday morning.
Jaffer Sharief was born on November 3, 1933, in Challakere Chitradurga and contested in the elections for the first time in 1972 from Bengaluru North and was representing till 1996.
He also served as the Union Railways Minister during PV Narasimha Rao's government in 1991. He is also credited for setting up of Rail Wheel & Axle Factory in Yelahanka, his home constituency and also launching several railway lines and stations in Karnataka.
HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister of Karnataka has expressed grief over the death of the Jaffer Sharief.
"Jaffer Sharief was one of most respected leaders of India. He was model humanitarian. His Passing away has brought great pain to me. He has made a lot of contribution to the state of Karnataka. I pray to god his family get the strength to endure the pain of losing him. " Kumaraswamy said.
