A fire tore through the municipal market in Temuco, southern Chile, on the evening of 20 April. It is reported that two firefighters were injured as over 400 worked to evacuate nearby residents in the CautÃn province town.
CautÃn Governor José Montalva said the building had been completely consumed by the fire and that it was a very big loss, reported La Tercera. Montalva said police had detained one person.
Temuco is a central point of departure for a number of tourist routes. Its modern infrastructure, with contemporary architecture and commercial centres, make it the most important city in the central southern area of the country.
