Chevrolet recently revealed its plan to double its market share in India by 2020. As part of the plan, the American manufacturer will bring the Trailblazer SUV in October 2015 and Chevrolet Spin MPV in early 2017.
The spy picture from Motoroids shows the testing of Spin has commenced in India. The car in the spy picture sports a Gujarat registration plate and the silhouette clearly indicates the vehicle under camouflage is the Spin.
Chevrolet Spin was developed by the design and engineering teams in Brazil, with inputs from GM engineers from the Southeast Asian region. It is a seven-seater MPV and will be pitted against the like of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and the Renault Lodgy in India.
The Spin has a wheelbase of 2,620mm and a length x width x height of 4,360 x 1,953 x 1,683mm. The vehicle weighs 1,277 kg and comes with a 50-litre fuel tank. Typical to the new generation of Chevrolet vehicles, the Spin sports a split-grill with bowtie Chevrolet emblem at the center. The vehicle has a boxy design common to most of the MPVs in the market.
The interior will sport dual tone finish and plenty of storage space. Chevrolet claims a high driving position that provides better visibility. The Spin has a cargo capacity of 162-litres, which increases to 864-litres with the third row seats folded and goes up to 1,608 litres with all seats folded.
The car is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder VVTi petrol engine that develops nearly 85bhp at 5,600 rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 106bhp at 6,000 rpm and 148Nm at 3,800 rpm, which is currently sold in Thailand market, might be offered in India. The engines will come paired to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
