American car-maker General Motors showcased Beat Activ concept at Auto Expo 2016 held in India. The crossover version of the Beat hatchback received positive response from the show-goers and the company subsequently confirmed plans for production-spec. General Motors showcased the final version of the Beat Activ at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Beat is called Spark in the US and hence the production-spec debuted as Spark Activ at the show. The India-launch of the model has been confirmed for next year and will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki's soon-to-be-launched Ignis in the newly-formed mini crossover segment.
"The new Spark (Beat) Activ is all about adventurous fun and style," Steve Majoros, Chevrolet director of car and crossover marketing, said. "It has an attitude, while still offering the sophisticated, efficient and connected driving experience customers have come to love."
The Spark Activ features off-road friendly bits such as skid plates at front and rear bumpers, 15-inch wheel design and a revised suspension that increases the ride height by 10mm. The crossover also sports unique grille pattern with Activ nameplate, contrasting wheelhouse moldings and hatchback cladding, rocker moldings and roof rail.
The car's interiors feature standard black, heated leatherette front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Additionally, they flaunt Chevrolet MyLink with a 7-inch-diagonal color touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, rear-vision camera system, cruise control, remote keyless entry and steering wheel controls for phone and audio system.
The Spark Activ is powered by an Ecotec 1.4-litre petrol engine offered with a manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the US. The same engine is expected in the Indian version also.
